Art and Design Halloween Party

How could I pass the opportunity to write about Halloween? When you are 20 years old, it is a little odd to dress up and go trick-or-treating. Although this is true, it is still possible to dress up and have fun! 

Every year, the department of art and design at Ohio Northern University holds a student and faculty Halloween party. Organizations AIGA, the professional association for design, and Kappa Pi, the art and design honorary fraternity, help put on the party.

Preparation for the party begins in the classroom. Professor Brit Rowe assigns first-year graphic design majors to design a spooky poster for the event. After the completion of the assignment, one design is chosen and hung throughout the Wilson art building.

When the day finally comes, it is time to party! Of course, costumes are a necessity. This year, I dressed up as a moth. I also walked with a lamp to refer to the moth and lamp memes.

Also, you cannot have a party without food or activities! Everyone brought snacks to share such as pumpkin dip, cinnamon pretzels and apple cider. Our main event of the night was bowling. The pins were rolls of toilet paper decorated as ghosts, and the ball was a small pumpkin.

This party is a great opportunity for the department to get together, share laughs, eat good food and have fun! I am already thinking of what or who I will be next year!

    OMG the moth costume with a lamp is genius and s hilarious, i love it!!! The snacks also sound so delicious. This idea sounds so fun and i would love to see what you designed as your spooky poster. Once you come up with an idea for next year i would love to hear it! this sounds so fun! thanks for sharing

Recently, I had my first big interview experience. I have interviewed for jobs before, but those required little thought or preparation.   This position, on the other hand, required much more time and effort. I ran for the graphic design intern position at Thirty-One Gifts in Columbus, Ohio. I originally found the position online and applied. To my surprise, they set up a phone interview with me. Customization is Key

The first step to enter into the world of social media is to create a profile. Overall, it seems simple. You enter your first name, last name, email address, username and then you are done. Sure, creating a profile is easy, but creating a professional and successful profile takes work. What I recently learned from Guy Kawasaki and Peg Fitzpatrick in their book “The Art of Social Media” is that there are many details that can easily be overlooked when creating a profile. A lot of these details contribute to customization. Before, I never realized the importance of the customization of your social media profiles. I thought that once your name was on the page, it was good. Kawasaki and Fitzpatrick basically stress how customizing your profile is key to making yourself appear unique and competent and I agree. Memories from my 4-year-old self

When I tell my brother and sister I can vividly remember living with my dad as a child, they never believe me. They tell me it is not possible for someone to have memories from such a young age. I must admit I think it is odd I am able to remember so far back, but I also find it interesting. Before you read further, I must warn you. Some of these memories may be emotional or uncomfortable.
